Timing is everything. I've carried around an index card with Thelma's name and address since 2000 - the year my aunt Yvonne passed and the year I received a copy of The English Family genealogy book from her daughter, my cousin.

The book, which includes material on some of my ancestors, helped inspired me to do track down my ancestors - a process I've been actively engaged in since 2006.

Then, on April 30th (last week), I set up a meeting with a distant cousin, June (Williamson) James, and a celebrated volunteer of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Kawartha Branch, in Peterborough to learn more about the Williamson family. In talking, she mentioned Thelma had just died two weeks ago.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Thelma, but her work lives on through the information she gathered and shared. Thank you.

And there's a lesson to be learned - when it comes to genealogy - do it now, don't wait. Barbara Williamson.
