Long Time OGS Durham Region Branch Member Dies at 81
WRIGHT, Thelma Irene - Peacefully with her children by her side at her home in Blackstock on Friday, April 17, 2009, at age 81. Thelma (nee Ferguson), dearly loved wife of the late Lloyd Wright. Loved mother of Don Wright (deceased), Leslie Wright (Harvey Poss) of Toronto, Cheryl DeJong (Brian) of Nestleton, and Harold Wright (Melanie) of Blackstock and mother-in-law of Dianne and Murray Carnaghan of Bethany. A Service to celebrate her life was held in the Blackstock United Church on Monday, April 20th at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Linda Saffrey offi ciating. Interment Cartwright Union Cemetery, Blackstock. Timing is everything. I've carried around an index card with Thelma's name and address since 2000 - the year my aunt Yvonne passed and the year I received a copy of The English Family genealogy book from her daughter, my cousin.
The book, which includes material on some of my ancestors, helped inspired me to do track down my ancestors - a process I've been actively engaged in since 2006.
Then, on April 30th (last week), I set up a meeting with a distant cousin, June (Williamson) James, and a celebrated volunteer of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Kawartha Branch, in Peterborough to learn more about the Williamson family. In talking, she mentioned Thelma had just died two weeks ago.
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Thelma, but her work lives on through the information she gathered and shared. Thank you.
And there's a lesson to be learned - when it comes to genealogy - do it now, don't wait. Barbara Williamson.
